Day 1
Nationality Law
Half-day - 3 hours
Covers: Different types of British nationality; acquisition
by birth and descent; applications for adult naturalisation.
European Economic Area and Immigration
Half-day - 2.5 hours
Covers: Classes of EU membership; rights to reside;
dependants; applications for registration; rights of accession country nationals.
Day 2 -Introduction to Immigration
Full day - 5 hours
Covers: Agencies of immigration control; who is subject to control; visa nationals; basics of in-country and visa applications;
common characteristics of leave; common grounds for refusal of visas/leave.
Day 3 - Family Applications
Full day - 5 hours
Covers: Understanding the family categories; certificates of approval to marry; couples categories; dependant relatives;
children.
Day 4
Asylum at Level 1
Half-day - 3 hours
Covers: refugee convention; asylum process; statuses; work, reporting and residence; travel documents.
Work - The Points Based Scheme
Half-day - 2.5 hours
Covers: PBS tiers; general rules; points calculations; applications process and forms; tier 2 general applications.
Day 5 - Immigration and Welfare
Entitlements
Full day - 5 hours
Covers: No recourse vs conditions of leave vs benefits rules; 'persons subject to immigration control' for benefits rules;
status and particular benefits; habitual residence; status and public housing, education and health entitlements.
Introduction to Immigration
Half-day (3 hours), Course Band B
This course is designed to serve as a lightning introduction to the basics of immigration. It introduces
the agencies of immigration control; who is subject to immigration control; common characteristics of leave;
different categories in the rules; support, accommodation and no-recourse to public funds.
Advising EU Migrants
Full-day (5.5 hours), Course Band B
This course is a comprehensive guide to advising EU migrants, particularly from the accession countries ("A8" and "A2").
It covers: EU rights to reside in the UK; the Workers Registration Scheme; entitlements to benefits, housing,
employment, education and health.
