Membership
ACSiS’
membership comprises neighbourhood and citywide advice and
information services. Advice services give individuals an
explanation of their rights in law over a range of social welfare
issues and provide options that may benefit the person. They may
also help the person by taking on activities on their behalf such
as representing them at tribunal or court. In formation services
limit their activity to providing background information,
generally less detailed than the information provided by advice
services. This may be in the form of leaflets or directing a
person to an agency that could help in a specific way.
Some
centres serve a local community, e.g. Manor Rights and Advice
Service. Others offer a citywide service, based on specific areas
of law, e.g. debt, or serve particular communities, e.g.
Yemeni Welfare and Advice Centre.
In
return for an annual subscription member centres receive benefits
charts and calulation sheets, a fortnightly mailout and access
to all ACSIS training courses.
