Training

ACSIS provides a comprehensive training programme for new and experienced advice workers - a valued resource as there is very little equivalent local training available to advice workers.from member centres and outside agencies ACSIS' training comprises:

  • The Basic Advice Work Skills (BAWS) course for all new advice workers. This is a 15-week skills and knowledge-based programme and can only work alongside the practical support and guidance that all new advice workers are given in the advice centre they work in. There is also an induction day prior to the start of the course. This course is accredited with the Open College Network. There is now a £75 admin fee for each trainee. The accreditation is under review at the moment and courses which commence after the 1st September will not be accredited.

  • Short Course 'Post-Basic' training. This rolling programme ensures that advice centres keep up to date with changes in local and national legislation, and develop their services to meet the needs of their community. The programme includes extensive debt and housing courses, sessions on challenging benefit decisions and cultural awareness training
